The Cold Noses Foundation
The Cold Noses Foundation is a US-based subchapter C nonprofit animal rescue foundation. Not only do they serve to fund US based animal rescue services, they also serve as a source of funds for animal rescue services around the globe. For example, they make grants to animal health research facilities and sponsor events such as "Free Spay Day" not only in the US but also in countries as far away as Romania and Greece (to name just a couple).
They came to Atlas with a particular issue… Their website wasn't reaching the global audience they felt it should. The problem was they had a static HTML website that was not responsive. Changing content to keep information available in a timely manner was not easy to do for non-technical staff. They wanted a new website based on a Content Management System (CMS) which allowed for easy access for non-technical staff to make changes to the content as and when needed. Also, given the fact they work with so many organizations abroad, there are many different devices used to view the content on their website – which meant there are many different screen sizes and orientations trying to view their content. They needed a site which was responsive to the viewport (the screen size and resolution of the device being used to view their website content). Enter Atlas ID.
Building responsive websites with easily accessed content management systems is our specialty. Not only were we able to completely redesign their website to give them a new look and feel but we also made the website responsive (meaning the content reflowed to fit the screen size and orientation of the device being used to view the content). We provided them with a content management system which was based on open source technology. The CMS was easy enough for non-technical staff to update the site at will – and the fact it was based on open source technology meant any additional functionality CNF might need in the future would most likely be achievable at minimal cost (something very important to cash-conscious nonprofit organizations).
CNF needed some custom functionality, as well. For example, they needed a way for potential grant applicants to review the grant guidelines applicable to the given time period, submit their grant application through the website and be able to check the status of their application as it goes through the approval process. Also, they needed a special subsection of the website relating to their periodic events to be able to be viewed as independent websites within their main site. Oh, and one more thing they requested was for visitors to have the ability to make a donation to the foundation no matter where they were on the website.
Needless to say, Atlas was up to the task. With some custom coding, they got everything they wanted and more! They even had a specific payment processor they wanted to use which did not automatically function properly with their payment gateway and which needed additional custom coding to make that request possible (a task significantly easier sounding than it actually turned out to be given the fact their payment processor was a non-US-based company).
Thanks to the strong collaborative efforts between Atlas ID and the Cold Noses Foundation, CNF now has a website which not only gives them a new presence in the competitive arena of donations collection but their site now effectively reaches their intended audience. CNF and Atlas continue their working relationship not just in the area of the foundation website but also on various print media items required by CNF for their various events and programs which occur throughout the year.
